German underwear manufacturer Bruno Banani has used Biophil, a new product from Advansa, in its latest range. According to the company, its underwear is not only comfortable, but is also environmentally friendly.

The company’s Jump&Run collection uses the Biophyl fabrics, which offer a soft hand, easy care and good stretch and recovery qualities. According to Advansa, a pronounced kink in the polymer’s molecular structure is the key to its ability to offer these benefits.

"The Bio-PDO used in Biophyl reduces considerably the dependence on petroleum,” says Advansa market manager, Luciano Colasanto. “37% of the polymers used in Biophyl are made of the new, reproducible raw material. This is an important step towards achieving sustainability for polyester textiles."

Compared with nylon, which is frequently used in underwear, production of the new polymer can cut CO² emissions by 63%. It can also save energy by up to 30%.
