For 50 years, the iconic Timberland® brand has been synonymous with comfort, performance, and durability. It started by equipping workers with the right footwear to power through the toughest outdoor environments (New England winters wouldn’t let the brand settle for less) and has since grown into a global brand with products that encompass work, life, and the outdoors – whether on the job, trail, street, or stage.

“Durability really resonates with the Timberland® brand in general, and while we know not all the products do the same job, the need for long-lasting durability is a core theme across the different types of products we develop,” said Charlie Downes-Jackson, Director of Product at Timberland® PRO Apparel. “When we can blend durability with additional factors like comfort and performance, that’s where we really stand out. And that’s where CORDURA® Advanced Fabrics come in.”

CORDURA® Advanced Fabrics and Timberland® have collaborated for many years to make some of the most durable apparel and footwear out there. From Timberland PRO® workwear to Timberland® Tree lifestyle products, CORDURA® Advanced Fabrics can be found throughout an entire garment, or used strategically in areas where reinforcement is needed like knee pads, pockets, and kick plates.

That’s why we are excited to highlight this exciting collection of Fall/Winter 2023 products using CORDURA® Advanced Fabrics.

  • The Timberland PRO® Ironhide Insulated Hooded Jacket features CORDURA® Classic Fabric for reinforcement and added durability in the hard-wearing areas where you need toughness and abrasion resistance most. CORDURA® Classic Fabric was the first CORDURA® brand fabric developed, and it still performs in the world’s toughest environments as well as it did more than 50 years ago.
  • The Timberland PRO® Ironhide Flex Utility Knee Pad Pant is also reinforced with CORDURA® Classic Fabric. It’s built for a full range of motion, can accommodate plenty of tools, and is designed to hold up to pretty much everything the job site can throw at you. CORDURA® fabric provides resistance to abrasion, tears, and scuffs.
  • The Timberland PRO® Ballast Pro Athlete Fit Denim Pant is built entirely from CORDURA® Denim Fabric, which also incorporates stretch to maximize comfort and mobility. CORDURA® Denim Fabric is designed to help jeans last 3 times longer than 100% cotton denim.* Even after exposure to regular wear and tear, CORDURA® Denim Fabric retains its strength better than conventional cotton denim, keeping jeans looking newer longer.**
  • The Timberland PRO® Ironhide Flex Bib Overalls are durable, breathable technical canvas bib overalls designed for a full range of motion all day as you bend, reach, squat, and stretch. CORDURA® Classic Fabric is used throughout for reinforcements in high wear areas, including the kick plate, and front and back pockets.

While CORDURA® Advanced Fabrics help make Timberland PRO® apparel even tougher than it already is, the fabrics also bring enhanced performance to the Timberland® lifestyle apparel line, which has a softer side but still needs to live up to the brand’s durable nature.

  • New for Fall/Winter 2023, the Timberland® Recycled Down 3 Layer Field Parka, features a first of its kind, post-industrial CORDURA re/cor™ Recycle Nylon 6,6 (RN66) Fabric, which pairs with a recycled down and recycled lining. The Timberland® design team made this the most pinnacle product possible to showcase what is feasible with recycled products. In addition to the materials used, this parka is also inherently responsible because of its long-lasting durability. It leaves us wondering… is this the last parka you’ll ever have to buy?
  • The outdoors has met its match with the Timberland® Waterproof Outdoor Parka and Water Repellent Pant, both reinforced with CORDURA® Classic Fabric. The parka combines the comfort and durability of CORDURA® fabric with the waterproof breathability of Timberland® Dryvent™ technology. This dual-layer system features an outer layer that fends off moisture, while an inside layer channels water vapors out to help keep things comfortable. The pants feature CORDURA® Classic Fabric in the knees for both durability and style. The Timberland® Water-Repellant Shirt also features CORDURA® Classic Fabric in its elbows and pocketing areas.

“To speak for development and design, using CORDURA® Advanced Fabrics across our product lines supports and validates the comfort, durability and performance of our products,” said Alexis Charrier, Materials Specialist, Fabrics and Trims, at Timberland®. “When the consumer sees CORDURA® Advanced Fabrics in our products, it automatically authenticates the longevity of the product, and there is an inherent trust that’s built into the CORDURA® brand name - just like there is for Timberland®.”

Timberland® and CORDURA® Advanced Fabrics aren’t stopping here. There are already new products in the works for 2024, 2025 and beyond.

“Without sharing exactly what we have up our sleeve for the future, you’ll continue to see an evolution of how we innovate with CORDURA® brand mill partners, to enhance the comfort and performance of our apparel even more – from Timberland PRO® to Timberland® Lifestyle,” added Charrier. “We stay connected with the CORDURA® brand and their preferred mill partners throughout the development process and are always aligned on our key pillars of durability, comfort, and performance. They are always working with us to develop and innovate exactly what we need to make fabrics we know will stand up to our customer’s demands.”

To explore more opportunities to design with CORDURA® Advanced Fabrics and have direct access to the portfolio, explore the CORDURA® Fabric Finder – a digital fabric library that allows brands to navigate a user-friendly digital interface to view an assortment of more than 800 fabrics. The fabrics mentioned above that Timberland® uses include:

  • The CORDURA® Classic Fabric portfolio which offers versatile solutions for a range of end-uses including footwear, bags, luggage, and backpacks, military equipment, garment reinforcement, and protective outerwear such as motorcycle clothing. It’s rugged and strong, with excellent resistance to abrasion, and enhanced tear strength.
  • Designed to help hard-working jeans last longer than traditional 100% cotton denim, CORDURA® Denim Fabric is engineered with a blend of INVISTA T420 nylon 6,6 staple fiber and cotton for an authentic denim look and feel with enhanced abrasion resistance and toughness.
  • Urging the industry to 'Expect More, Waste Less', our award-winning CORDURA re/cor™ RN66 Fabric collection challenges the throw-away mentality within the textile industry, making it easier for consumers to understand how one ingredient and quality craftmanship can allow them to get the most from their gear and apparel.
