German textile symposium held in Tashkent

The VDMA Textile Machinery Association is currently hosting its German Textile Technology Symposium Central Asia in Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent. The symposium, which ran May 18-20, is officially supported by the German Ministry for Economics and Technology.

Prominent German textile machinery manufacturers have presented their latest ideas and innovations at the event.

Uzbekistan is a key market for German textile machinery in Central Asia. German textile machinery exports totaled almost EUR 15 million in 2006 and 2007. Exports fell to EUR 9.85 million in 2008 as a result of the global economic downturn.
In 2008, the highest demand reported was for spinning machinery (EUR 5.68 million and weaving machinery (EUR 4.62 million).

Kazakhstan is another key market in the region and German textile machinery exports to the country totalled EUR 10.65 million Euros in 2008.
