Fjällräven launches anniversary backpack
05/02/2010
Swedish outdoor brand Fjällräven is celebrating 50 years in the industry by launching at ispo Winter 2010 a limited-edition of its bestselling Kånken daypack. The Anniversary Edition of product, made of a durable synthetic nylon called Vinylon F, is equipped with a leather label and an individual serial number on the inside. Further, every model includes a dedication from founder, Åke Nordin.
The bag will be produced this year only, and in a limited number. Fjällräven expects it to become a popular item. The Kånken was originally developed in 1978 to protect school children’s backs. Since then, more than three million packs have sold worldwide. Designed for daily use, the daypack is available in 39 colours.
High quality manufacturing and the Vinylon F fabric are the keys to Kånken’s success, the company says. The light but extremely durable material swells like a natural fibre, thus making the weave more dense when it’s raining. This gives the fabric inherent waterproof qualities. The bag, which will be sold at retail for around EUR 60, includes a detachable seat to give users somewhere dry to sit while outdoors in snowy or wet weather.
