Sofila develops new Greenfil yarns
After two years of research and development, French nylon yarn specialist Sofila has developed a new range of high-performance nylon yarns, produced using bio-polymers derived from the Ricinus plant.
The new Greenfil yarns have been developed by Sofila in partnership with chemical company Arkema which supplied its Rilsan polyamide 11 polymer to produce the yarns. The yarns are currently being tested by various European textile brands, particularly for hosiery and socks.
Castor oil comes from the beans of the Ricinus plant, which can grow in Africa or Asia on poor lands without irrigation or fertilisers. These beans are not produced from genetically modified seeds and are 100% renewable.
“Greenfil yarns are not just an ecological alternative to oil based polyamide, they also bring outstanding performances regarding bacteriostaticity, resistance and comfort, which means significant benefits for the consumer,” claims Sofila spokesperson Augustin Bidault.
The company is offering the yarns in counts of 22, 44 and 78 dtex.
