Latest Invista looks at Denim by PV

Polymer and fibre manufacturer Invista is to showcase some of its latest innovations at Denim by PV, which takes place June 2-3 in Paris.

Its stand will present three distinct fabric themes: Super Stretch, Super Recovery and Super Comfort.
The Super Stretch category will focus on fabrics and garments made with Lycra. According to Jean Hegedus, the company’s global marketing director for denim, this category poses key challenges for mills and brands alike. “In talking with our customers, we have found the main difficulty with Super Stretch fabrics is achieving good fabric stability. Typically, as you increase stretch in fabrics, you also increase the tendency for higher growth and shrinkage,” Ms Hegedus says. To help address these issues, the company has worked with several mills to develop a solution by integrating Lycra fibre and Lycra T400 fibre in the same fabric. The Lycra fibre offers better stretch, while the Lycra T400 offers good stability.

In the second category, Super Recovery, Invista will focus on fabrics containing Lycra T400 fibre, including some made with a new, textured yarn from Spain’s Ductel. According to David Capdevila, European marketing manager for Invista, fabrics made with this yarn are quite unique. “They have a beautiful sheen and significant “snapback” so garments provide a powerful, yet comfortable stretch,” he Capdevila says.
The third category, Super Comfort, features XFit Lycra fabrics that stretch and recover in all directions. “These fabrics combine the best attributes of Lycra fibre and Lycra T400 fibre, providing the ultimate in comfort and freedom of movement, as well as unique design possibilities,” Ms Hegedus said.
The company will also announce a trademark and patent protection programme for its Lycra T400 fibre at the event.
