New anti-cellulite fabric comes through testing

24/06/2010
Italian warp-knit fabrics producer Carvico has carried out extensive testing on a new product called Revolutional Slim.

Carvico describes the product as one that performs "a remodelling action on localised fat in total comfort", making it suitable for use in next-to-skin garments, especially those intended for shapewear. The material is extremely light, ultrafine and breathable; it envelops the figure but does not constrict, allowing maximum freedom of movement.

The composition is 29% elastane and 71% polyamide micro, with the fibre coming from Spanish supplier Nurel,  micro-encapsulated with active ingredients such as caffeine, retinol, fatty acids, aloe and vitamin E.

According to Carvico, the product "redefines the silhouette and provides a new treatment for the reduction of blemishes caused by cellulite, a condition that affects almost 90% of women".

Clinical safety and effectiveness tests have been successfully completed by Milan-based testing and research firm Biobasic Europe. The tests took place over 56 days and involved 20 women between the ages of 18 and 60 who wore panty-hose made with Revolutional Slim for 8 hours a day. During this time, they refrained from any other skin treatment, including massages, creams and even herbal teas. "The results show that Revolutional Slim can fight skin flaws caused by cellulite and reduce localised fat deposits," Carvico said.

At the end of the test period, Biobasic Europe concluded that the product caused no irritation and left the women involved with smoother skin, and less swelling and water retention. The women also recorded a reduction of up to 2.5 centimetres in the circumference of their hips and thighs, and evidence of the so-called orange peel effect on their skin was reduced in 75% of cases. At the same time, skin firmness improved in 85% of cases.

The volunteers also reported that the panty-hose were comfortable to wear, maintained their performance after washing and were invisible even under the tightest clothes. Carvico added that clothes made from the fabric will have a UV Protection Factor of 50+, will dry quicky, have excellent shape retention, and non-curling and pilling resistance properties.
