Stella McCartney to design 2012 Olympic kit

Fashion designer Stella McCartney has been appointed as creative director for Team GB ahead of the 2012 London Olympics. She will oversee the design of athlete and fan apparel for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Ms McCartney has previous experience in the sports apparel sector having designed dresses worn by players at this year’s Wimbledon tennis tournament.

"As a British fashion designer it is an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," she said.

Olympic gold medal-holding cyclist Victoria Pendleton added: "I'm a massive Stella fan. With London being host it's really important as the host nation to set the standards."
