Havaianas to launch sneaker line

Iconic Brazilian flip-flop brand Havaianas has announced that it will include sneakers and espadrilles as well as its more traditional open-toe products in its forthcoming autumn-winter collection.

As part of a new environmentally conscious line, Eco Soul, the brand will offer shoes made from jute fiber, a typical raw material which grows in the channels of the Amazon River and does not require any fertilisers or pesticides. The soles are made from a blend of natural rubber and recycled textiles. Jute production provides a living for more than 50,000 Brazilian families.

The footwear company also pointed out at the launch that jute takes only two years to decompose, whereas cotton, typically, takes 10 and polyester 100 years. "Havaianas Eco is very relevant for consumers that are environmentally conscious and fashion savvy," the company said.
