Maria Sharapova designs her own competition outfits

The dresses, made by Nike, will also be available to the general public as part of the brand's Maria Sharapova Collection.
For daytime matches, the dress Ms Sharapova will wear will be teal blue with contrasting trim and piping. If she is drawn to play at night, her look will be dark blue with black accents and piping.
Nike's creative director for tennis, Janice Lucena, told USA Today that design mattered more at the US Open. She said: "Designing for the Open is a unique experience because there is a bit more glamour, given the proximity to New York. Everything about the Open, from the size of the stadium to the night matches, adds a little more drama, and we like to use that in our designs and to go a little further from tradition."
