Adidas outdoor hits US
German sportswear brand adidas will enter the US outdoor market in autumn 2011 with a newly developed range of footwear, apparel and accessories, including the Terrex concept, which debuted in Europe in 2009.
The adidas outdoor autumn-winter 2011 collections were recently unveiled at the January 2011 Outdoor Retailer Show in Salt Lake City, Utah. Adidas partner Agron Inc will be the official and exclusive distributor for adidas outdoor products in the US.
“Adidas is the athletic brand in the outdoors with a unique heritage dating back to the ’70s when we equipped outdoor legends such as Reinhold Messner with cutting-edge technologies,” said Rolf Reinschmidt, senior vice president at adidas Global Outdoor. “Over the last couple of seasons, we have now developed innovative products that offer lightness, perfect fit and freedom of movement to best address athletes’ needs in the outdoors. Agron’s proven track record in distribution and customer service combined with its vertical outdoor competence makes this partnership a win-win situation. Together, we are looking forward to succeeding in the US outdoor market.”
Adidas has a long history in innovative outdoor products with products such as the ‘Super Trekking’, the first light trekking shoe, being worn by professional climber Reinhold Messner for his first Everest ascent without oxygen support in 1978.
Adidas outdoor has teamed up with climbing legends Reinhold Messner and the Huber Brothers to work with them on product development. The Huber Brothers are ambassadors for the Terrex collection and have worn the product on recent expeditions to Antarctica and Pakistan.
