Chinese manufacturers want to set up in the Philippines

Capacity constraints in Chinese garment manufacturing industry have led business owners there to travel to the Philippines for discussions about setting up factories there.

Reports in the Philippines have said the government could respond to this interest from China by reviving plans to establish economic zones for garment exporters. It announced plans to set up apparel sourcing centres—with factories and logistics hubs sited together at each of three proposed locations, at
Clark in the north, Cavite near Manila and Cebu to the south—in 2008. There were proposals at the time to set up duty-free garment exports to the US, but this has not happened.

Visiting officials from the China National Garments Association are reported to have said that high-end apparel retailers in there country were looking overseas for manufacturers as domestic factories are unable to meet growing demand.
