H&M opts for fluorocarbon-free finish

Retailer H&M has included outdoor clothes with Bionic finish from Rudolf Chemie for water repellency.

Rudolf said H&M had been attracted to its technology because it is flurocarbon-free. Bionic is free from organic halogens and is biologically degradable. The finish is composed of star-shaped, hyper-branched polymers (dendrimers). These improve the water-repellent effect by building up crystalline structures at the nano level because of their net-like structures. This invisible flexible structure is holds up under washing.
