The new foam moulds to the shape of the foot to create a customised fit system inside the shoe. OrthoLite Impressions is currently in development with top footwear brands for both insoles and lining foams and is set to appear in footwear collections in spring 2012.
“OrthoLite Impressions will provide a custom-fit feeling that is unlike any foam we’ve ever produced,” said company president, Pamela Gelsomini, on announcing the new product. “The development of OrthoLite Impressions comes from our company’s increasing focus on creating more sustainable products. We are extremely proud of this new foam technology and we know our customers will be proud to use it.”
Castor oil is the source of the bio-oil that makes up 50% of the material mix in the new foam. OrthoLite has pointed out that castor oil is a non-food plant source that shows “significant ecological advantages in terms of energy and resource consumption”.
To further underscore OrthoLite’s commitment to sustainable products, chief executive, Glenn Barrett, was a speaker at the World Biofuels Markets event in Rotterdam, the Netherlands on March 22. Mr Barrett was the only representative from the footwear industry speaking at the event.
