Textile Institute launches series of sustainability talks

27/05/2011
The Sustainability Special Interest Group (SIG) of Manchester-basde industry organisation The Textile Institute has organised a series of talks for the month of June. The talks, covering different aspects of sustainability in textiles and apparel, will take place in three cities with textiles traditions on June 2, June 14 and June 30.

On each occasion, two speakers will address the audience. The events are open to all, with members of the Textile Institute paying £10 for admission and non-members £15.

Nottingham will host the first talk, at which social and environmental compliance certification and training organisation WRAP (Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production) will give an update on the UK government's Sustainable Clothing Roadmap, an initiative launched in 2007 to help companies in the clothing industry improve their performance in sustainability.

Later, European not-for-profit organisation MADE-BY will explain its work to make sustainable fashion common practice.

The series will continue with sessions in Bolton on June 14 and Leeds on June 30.
