A total of 301 entries were submitted from 23 countries from around the world. In all, 46 products were honoured with an award, while the eleven best submissions across various categories received a Gold Award. All of the award-winning products went on display at the exhibition. In advance of the show, a judging panel met for two days in Hannover to decide on the winners.
In the apparel and shoes category, there were Gold Awards for the Real Custom Made customised trekking shoe from German manufacturer Hanwag, and for the Mithril Kevlar Jacket, a softshell jacket with fluorocarbon-free Kevlar-reinforced material, from Swedish brand Klättermusen.
Winners in the mountain climbing equipment category were Edelrid from Germany for its Fraggle full-body harness for children, Swedish outdoor brand Primus for its OmniLite Ti expedition stove, and Valandre of France for its Immelman down jacket.
There were two winners in the camping equipment category: the Ergo Hammock Combi from Swiss company Exped, and the Therm-a-Rest Neo Air XTherm Mattress from Cascade Designs of the US. Three Gold Awards were presented in a category labelled products of high ecological and sustainable value. These were for the Challenger backpack from German brand Vaude, the Vingetorix outdoor jacket from Vingetorix, a Swiss company, and the Titan 450 sleeping-bag from the UK’s Mountain Equipment.
Finally, in the materials innovation category, a Gold Award went to California-based Mountain Hardwear for its Spinoza jacket.
