OIA Sustainability Group recognised by White House
The Outdoor Industry Association Sustainability Working Group (OIA SWG) and its member companies have been recognised by the White House as a Champion of Change for Corporate Environmental Sustainability. The Champion of Change program is part of Barack Obama’s Winning the Future Across America initiative, which recognises citizens for their extraordinary work to serve and strengthen our country through innovation, education, and creativity.
The OIA Sustainability Working Group comprises more than 250 outdoor industry brands, retailers and suppliers who work together to improve the environmental and social impacts of their shared global supply chains. Dr Sam Moore represents the Hohenstein Institute and the International Oeko-Tex Association in his work with the Sustainability Group, specifically in the areas of responsible chemicals management, green chemistry, and third-party certifications.
“The Outdoor Industry Association is a role model for others and the White House award is well deserved,” said Dr Moore. “With the OIA's leadership, Hohenstein, Oeko-Tex, and other dedicated companies from all sectors of the supply chain have come together to productively address issues and enact meaningful changes to reduce the industry’s social and environmental impacts and to strengthen our businesses.”
Representatives of the OIA Sustainability Working Group and the group’s Advisory Council received the award at a White House Champions of Change ceremony on April 12, 2012.
