New fabrics from Sofileta

At Performance Days in Munich on May 9 and 10, French textile manufacturer Sofileta introduced a range of energising fabrics that reflect far infrared radiation (FIR) and boast performance and cosmetic properties. The company said that the results have been confirmed by independent testing.

Its summer 2014 collection also includes a new category of retroreflective fabrics and an expanded range of ultra-fine gauge knits.

Sofileta’s Energizing Fabric concept is based on the presence of metallic oxides that reflect FIR emitted by the body. The special additive gently raises body temperature and accelerates blood flow, which can have several beneficial effects.

Fabrics have been tested both for their cosmetic and performance properties. An independent laboratory specialising in cosmetics has shown that wearing apparel made from Sofileta Energizing Fabrics has a slimming effect and helps improve the skin’s texture and elasticity. The fabrics’ positive effects on sports recuperation have been tested by two French university laboratories. Results indicate a lower level of lactic acid in the muscles, meaning less cramp for athletes. The laboratories are currently working on a test protocol to validate other possible properties including increased performance and balance.

The range includes first-layer knits, bonded and double-knit fabrics for soft shells and laminates for outer layer garments.

In response to growing demand for retroreflective fabrics that provide added safety and a techno look, Sofileta also introduced two high-tech retroreflective fabrics for summer 2014. The two references, plain and with a special 3D effect pattern, are lightweight and elastic for increased flexibility and comfort.

In addition, Sofileta has expanded its offering of ultra-fine stretch knits for spring 2014. New gauge 50 double-knits target the shaping and compression markets and can also be used for raw edges. The company’s gauge 50 warp-knits combine extreme finesse with high opacity. The new and even finer 62 gauge circular knits are like second skins: very light, compact and extremely elastic.
