Hong Kong-based apparel manufacturer Higson International is to produce its Iguana Sportswear brand in Zitoradja, Serbia.

The company is to invest EUR4 million in the new production line, moving between 10% and 15% of its Asian production capacity to the European nation. This will make it easier for the brand to export to the EU, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

The unit will initially generate 500 jobs, but is expected to create 1,500 roles in the long term.

Founded in Germany, CEO Franz Koller said that: "[Higson] was the first company that moved to Asia and we want to be the first to move our facilities to southeast Europe."
