JJB names new chief executive officer
Beverley Williams has taken the helm at JJB Sports
following the resignation of its chief executive on August 3. She was formerly commercial
director and co-chief executive at lingerie brand La Senza.
Ms Williams will take over the company, which was on the
brink of collapse until US retailer Dicks Sporting Goods invested £20 million
in the firm back in April, in addition to the £10 million provided by existing
shareholders.
Former CEO Keith Jones saw share prices fall from 239p
when he took over in March 2010 to around 6p.
The sporting goods company faces fierce competition from
cut-price retailer Sports Direct, which has reported improved profits despite
difficult market conditions.
Sales at JJB fell 8.7% in the 24 weeks to July 15.
Ms Williams stepped down as commercial director and
co-chief executive at La Senza shortly before the business went into
administration in December. Her decision to leave was unrelated to the chain’s
collapse, she said.
