DuPont offers several fibre developments
20/09/2012
Sorona, a high-performance fibre, offers softness, stretch and recovery, and chlorine and UV resistance in vivid colour fabrics designed for easy care. By replacing a traditionally petrochemical-based ingredient with one made with a renewably sourced ingredient, the production of Sorona requires 30% less energy and reduces greenhouse gas emissions 63% compared with the production of an equal amount of nylon, DuPoint claims.
Air-jet textured yarn made with Sorona provides colour fastness resulting in bright colours that dry faster and can be used for seamless underwear, sports and leisure wear. The Sorona filament fibre for swimwear has UV and chlorine-resistant performance that stands up to colour fading after frequent uses.
The US company showcased the developments, among others, at the Expofil show in Paris this week.
