Spanish exports of clothes and textiles up

07/12/2012
Spanish textile industry association CIE has reported an increase in exports from the textile and garments sector there in the first nine months of 2012. CIE said exports were up by 8.6% in value over the period compared to the same months in 2011, reaching EUR 10.3 billion.

If the momentum of the first nine months continues until the end of the year, CIE said it could predict an increase for the whole of 2012 of 7.8%.

The organisation said knitwear and finished garment exports to Asia and the Americas had been the main source of the increase in value, but shipments to other countries in the European Union between January and September 2012 increased in value by 7.1%.

Over the same period, clothing and textile imports into Spain fell by 7.5%.
