Increase in Spanish garment and textile exports

21/04/2016
Garment and textile exports from Spain rose 8% to €1.2 billion in February year on year. That represents a slowdown compared to January when exports of garments and textiles increased 9.1%.

Exports of garments rose 4.1% to €867 million whilst footwear exports suffered a 5.1% fall, the only subsector of the fashion industry to do so. Overall exports from Spain grew 2.4% to nearly €38.7 billion.

Fashion imports rose, however, and again exceeded the increase in exports. Spain imported 17% more fashion items than in February 2015, the total value of which was €1.8 billion. The apparel industry made up €1.4 billion of this, a 17.5% increase, whilst footwear imports jumped 10.4% to nearly €300 million.
