China’s top footwear retailer Belle International has announced a 10% rise in sportswear sales for the fourth quarter of 2012 and confirmed it opened 889 stores over the course of the year.

The company, which stocks brands including Nike and adidas, also reported a same-store sales increase of 3% in its footwear sector for the quarter.

China’s sportswear companies such as Li Ning and Peak have had a tough 12 months, hampered by high inventories that have resulted in declines in profit and share price.

Belle operated 12,090 footwear outlets and 5,474 sportswear outlets as at December 31, 2012.
