Tony Post, the former chief executive of soling specialist Vibram in the US, will launch a new company and a new athletic footwear concept at the 2012 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market exhibition, which takes place in Salt Lake City from January 23-26.

His new idea, Topo Athletic, is based on the Japanese Tabi shoe and has a split toe to createa unique anchor point in the forefoot”, offering more security and “a stronger connection” to the footwear for runners, Mr Post has claimed. The shoe upper is made from lightweight material and all seams are welded to prevent chafing. There is a zero-drop heel-to-toe platform, which the founder explains is “because we don’t think a shoe should fix the way you run or train”.

“We are in awe of the genius of human biomechanics,” Mr Post has said, “and to that we respectfully bring our modern constructions, fabrics and designs that optimise these amazing natural abilities. The result is a new kind of athletic shoe—one that brings a subtle but sophisticated technology to the instinctive movement of the human foot and body.”
