Vibram celebrates US Department of Defence ruling

Quabaug, a US-based manufacturer of Vibram soling, has celebrated a new Department of Defence ruling that all new military recruits must purchase domestically manufactured athletic footwear with the announcement that is investing $1.2 million in research and development.

Italy-based Vibram forged a partnership with Quabaug in the 1960s to meet production needs in the US.

"This is a rebirth of an era of athletic shoe production in New England that ended over 30 years ago," said Quabaug CEO Mike Gionfriddo. "Every man and woman who serves our country wears a shoe with a Vibram sole and now we can finally extend this to their athletic training footwear."
