Technology centre to press ahead with recycled PU for soling

La Rioja’s centre for footwear technology (CTCR), situated in the footwear manufacturing hub of Arnedo, has announced that it will go ahead with a project to use recycled polyurethane (PU) to make soles.

Working with a partner research centre in Valladolid, the CTCR will work on new methods of recycling the material to make the PU suitable for soling applications. It expects two local components suppliers, Garmaryga and Cauchos Ruiz-Alejos, to have prototypes ready later this year.
