Enka, a synthetic fibre producer based in Colombia, is expanding outside its traditional market and hopes to partner with more companies that produce textiles for sportswear.

It has also said it intends to begin exporting to Europe once the trade agreement between the EU, Colombia and Peru goes through in the first quarter of this year.

“We sell a lot of industrial products in Europe, but we’re looking for partners to sell more on the textile side,” said textiles sales manager Juan Gomez. “We are trying to take advantage of the trade agreements, firstly with the US and now with Europe.” He added that the company saw particular synergies with the yogawear market.

Enka’s fibres are made from 100% post-consumer recycled polyethylene terephthalate, derived from plastic bottles collected all over Colombia.

At last week’s Colombiatex trade fair in Medellin, Enka showed new products including Eko Filaments, nylon and polyester microfibres and bicomponents filaments, which give high functionality to activewear, sporstwear, innerwear and outerwear.
