Functional textile finishing products launched in Germany

04/02/2013
An innovative functional textile finishing for leisure and sports garments that claims exceptional durability is now being offered by Germany’s Freudenberg Group.

Purtex,a polyurethane emulsion, is free from solvents and combines environmental compatibility with durable waterproofing, abrasion resistance, high wear comfort and a pleasant feel, according to the company. It says it is "an outstanding alternative to many commonly used impregnating agents, such as those based on perflourinated compounds (PFCs) that are now controversial".

It is applied to the woven or knitted fabric during finishing by normal industrial processes and retains its positive properties over the service cycle of the finished textiles.

Three products are available. Purtex WR is water-repellent and can be used for outdoor or professional clothing; Purtex WA is aimed at the sportswear market with its water absorbancy characteristics; and Purtex AP is a variant optimised for good abrasion and pilling behaviour.

Purtex does not contain any substances which are considered to be damaging to humans or the environment and is free from fluorocarbons, organic tin compounds, phthalates, isocyanates, heavy metals, alkylphenol ethoxylates and formaldehyde.
