Cut-resistant hockey sock available for consumer purchase

20/03/2013
Sports clothing brand Swiftwick has announced that its cut-resistant hockey sock is now available to consumers, following use by players in the National Hockey League (NHL). The sock is designed to give players protection from Achilles' tendon injuries, whilst not restricting movement or control over their blades.

To manufacture the sock, Swiftwick, based in Tennessee, uses a composite yarn made from very small, dense fibres. These give wearers double the level of protection against blade cuts and abrasion, compared to similar socks.

Swiftwick has made this claim following tests carried out by yarn manufacturer Teijin Limited.
