Sports brands eye cut-resistant Covec yarn

Outdoor and sports brands are eyeing the protective functions of Covec yarn, a blend of cotton and impact abrasion-resistant Vectran, according to the UK-based company.

Currently used to make motorcycle gear, the yarn is either used on its own to create a liner which is then inserted into a garment, or it is woven with other yarns to create a protective textile.

The abrasion and cut resistant, thermo-tropic yarn is reportedly three times stronger than Kevlar and does not degrade with time, use or exposure to UV or moisture.
