Brad Poorman steps down as Cocona CEO

01/05/2013
Active-particles technology provider to the sports and outdoor apparel market Cocona has announced that its long-standing chief executive, Brad Poorman, is to leave the company to pursue other opportunities and that Jeff Bowman is the new chief executive.

Mr Bowman is a former Malden Mills and WL Gore executive who most recently worked as chief operating officer and chief technical officer of outdoor brand Massif. He said at the time of the announcement: “I am excited to continue Brad’s pioneering work in establishing the Cocona technology across a wide range of opportunities. This business reminds me of my tenure at Gore, where we also recognised the tremendous potential of a unique, patented technology to revolutionise a number of products and markets.”

Brad Poorman, who will work with Jeff Bowman during a settling-in period, has run Cocona since 2005. He succeeded in convincing prominent brands including Rip Curl, Under Armour, The North Face, adidas, RAB, Asics, Cutter & Buck, Salomon and Puma to incorporate the technology into their clothing ranges. Cocona particles in materials provide an evaporative cooling effect while also capturing odours and UV in its varied pore structure.

Cocona is privately held, but announced at the start of 2013 that it had secured a $15 million investment from venture capital firms to enable it to expand its application development capacity and grow.
