Warrior unveils new Liverpool FC shirt

US-based sportswear brand has unveiled the new kit English Premier League side Liverpool FC, its first partner team in Europe, will wear in season 2013-2014.

Warrior, which is owned by New Balance, first supplied kit to Liverpool for season 2012-2013 and has said that the home-shirt it produced proved to be the fastest-selling in the club’s history.

The new design is described as a modern take on the shirt Liverpool wore in 1984, when it won Europe’s top club competition, the European Cup (now called the Champions’ League) for the fourth time. A white three-piece collar set upon a traditional red colour scheme is complemented by mirrored details on each sleeve. Warrior has said that the bold white accents define the overall look.

In line with the 2012-13 version, two embroidered ‘eternal flame’ logos alongside the number 96 are positioned on the nape of the shirt’s neck to commemorate the Liverpool FC fans who died at a match in Sheffield in 1989.

“It pays tribute to the renowned success Liverpool FC is built on, but it is also a nod to the future,” said Richard Wright, head of football for Warrior. “With high performance the top priority, our design team has further developed what was loved about our last design and lifted it to a new level. The result is an innovative take on the iconic red jersey.”

In technical terms, the kit has been constructed using War-Tech, Warrior’s proprietary apparel technology system. Highly breathable, moisture-wicking fabric has been used to build the main body of the shirt. Four-way stretch mesh paneling under the arms and across the back will allow for high levels of airflow and ventilation, helping players stay comfortable in core heat areas of the body.

Liverpool FC manager, Brendan Rodgers, said of the new design: “It’s distinctly Liverpool, which the players and I love. It exceeds what we need it to do technically while also delivering a strong visual statement.”
