Honduras supply chain purchase puts Gildan in strong position

Canadian sportswear brand Gildan Activewear has bought a Honduras-based textile printing company as it seeks to partner companies that are eyeing moving manufacturing to the Western hemisphere.

New Buffalo Shirt Factory, which it purchased for $7 million, provides screen-printing and decoration for lifestyle and athletic brands.

Although the main focus of Gildan’s growth strategy is the development of its company-owned brands, it says there is an opportunity to build its business as a supply chain partner to global consumer brands.

The key management of New Buffalo, including founder Jon Weiss, will continue to operate the business under Gildan ownership.
