Bangladesh: garment orders from US and Europe fall

24/06/2013
Ready made garment manufacturers in Bangladesh have told local media that orders from customers in Europe and the US have fallen significantly compared to this time last year. They have quoted the fatal collapse of a factory at Rana Plaza near Dhaka in April as the main reason.

A senior representative of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury, recently told local media: “Orders have reduced significantly. The buyers were in a shock after the Rana Plaza collapse, but now the situation is improving.”

He put the decline in orders at between 30% and 35% and said buyers have ordered more garments from manufacturers in India and Vietnam instead.
