The North Face and Buff among EOCA winners

Swiss-based organisation the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) named The North Face and Original Buff among winners of its conservation awards at the recent OutDoor trade event in Friedrichshafen, Germany.

The EOCA is an initiative from the European outdoor industry with the objective of protecting wild areas, with 100% of fees supporting projects.

The Summit Member is a new award to recognise companies which fund entire conservation projects through EOCA. Buff chose to support the Mountain Forests of Catalonia project, in addition to six other projects it has funded over the past two years. The North Face is funding a winter conservation programme implemented by Respect the Mountains designed to educate up to 50 young people and enable them to take part in conservation work.

There were three winners of the EOCA Conservation Champion award. Polartec raised awareness via messages on 4,800 tshirts at OutDoor and climbing festivals. KEEN footwear and Bergans of Norway also raised additional funds for EOCA, resulting in more than €10,000 being put directly into conservation projects in the past two years.

“All these members have gone above and beyond simply paying a membership fee to EOCA,” explained Tanya Bascombe, joint general manager of EOCA. “There are so many ways to support and protect our wild spaces and get involved in spreading the message about conservation, and these awards demonstrate how our members are embracing that opportunity.”

Six new members, which signed up at the show, were Goal Zero, LiteXpress, Montane, Qualiance International, Craghoppers and The Original Mountain Marathon - taking the number of members to 108.
