Abacus puts bamboo charcoal technology into golf shirt
01/08/2013
The technology works by heating bamboo to a temperature of 800 degrees Celsius to make charcoal; the charcoal is then processed and mixed with fibres to create fabrics with high levels of moisture wicking to keep wearers dry and cool while providing protection from ultraviolet radiation and antibacterial and anti-odour functionality.
In Abacus’s case, the bamboo charcoal combines with a micro polyester to make golf shirts. On announcing the development, the companies head of design, Chris Mattsson, said: “In addition to its key technical benefits, due to the bamboo charcoal particles being embedded in the fabric rather than simply coated onto its surface, the fabric can be washed numerous times with no adverse effect on the charcoal qualities.”
