Myanmar garment workforce doubles in six months

Reports from Myanmar say the garment industry has received the most foreign investment out of any sector over the past six months, doubling employment levels in the period.

Japan and South Korea made the most orders with the US and Europe also increasing orders after Myanmar was allowed into a trade preferences scheme by the European Union.

"Nearly 20 new factories are preparing to launch their operations, and employment rates in the industry almost doubled during the period,” an official from Myanmar Garment Manufacturers Association told Eleven.
