Indian cricket captain to back low-cost sports chain

Local reports say India’s cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is preparing to invest in a company called Light Speed Sports, which will operate a multi-brand sports retail chain called FitSoul.

A former Reebok executive, Sajid Shamim, has talked to media about a deal between him, another investor, Parvinder Singh, and Rhiti Sports, the company that manages Mr Dhoni’s endorsement deals, to start the retail venture. Mr Dhoni is already a brand ambassador of FitSoul.

Mr Shamim said he and his partners wanted to set up low-cost outlets selling sports apparel, footwear and equipment in smaller towns close to big cities. He said having India’s cricket captain as part of the set-up would bring credibility and provide a “pull factor” for FitSoul.
