Functional fabrics take centre stage in Hong Kong

A fabric touch tester, an energy management system for textile production and silk fabric for electromagnetic shielding will be among innovations on display in the functional fabrics section of the Interstoff Asia Essential textile event in Hong Kong, which takes place at the end of September.

Co-organised by fair organiser Messe Frankfurt and the Taiwan Textile Federation, the revamped Design Studio will showcase the latest sportswear and outdoor wear and will feature Taiwanese designers and fashion brands including FN.ICE, Eversmile and Advance Hitech Textile.

Tamurakoma from Japan supplies high-tech fabrics for sportswear and outdoor wear using what it describes as innovative coating and laminating; Korean company PAKA Intertex will introduce its micro nylon/cotton and reversible fabrics; and FSPG Hi-Tech from China will showcase its EasyTex breathable membrane fabric, described has having similar breathability properties to skin.

Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel, the Thailand Textile Institute and Shinshu University from Japan make up the Research and Education Zone, which is 25% larger than last year.
