Wool trends on show in Shanghai

The Woolmark Company, which runs Australian Wool Innovation’s Woolmark brand to extend demand and market access for Australian wool worldwide, took part in the SpinExpo event in Shanghai at the start of September, alongside 200 other exhibitors from 15 countries.

Product innovations and global trends in wool were the main areas of focus for The Woolmark Company at the event; it had on show an array of colourful yarns, with warm colours emerging as the dominant hue for the autumn-winter 2014-2015 season in the northern hemisphere. It displayed seven inspirations and upcoming trends.

Stemming from the massive landscape of the Scottish Highlands, this theme was particularly popular. A mixture of greens and browns are combined, merging earth and vegetation colours into one and “offering a sense of comfort and warmth”, the company said. Also noticeable was a focus on blues, which is a typical choice for both formal and leisure occasions and of choice for its fineness and profound expressive force.

Apart from colour trends, the company used SpinExpo to introduce new spinning techniques and creative dyeing methods.
