India’s technical textile sector growing, claims Messe Frankfurt

The fourth edition of India’s International Trade Fair for Technical Textiles and Nonwovens (Techtextil India 2013) attracted 182 exhibitors from across the globe.

More than 4,000 overseas technical textile representatives from countries including Austria, Turkey, Sweden, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, the UK and the US attended the event, which was held in Mumbai from October 3-5. There were also national pavilions from Belgium, China, France and Germany. 

Raj Manek, director of Messe Frankfurt Trade Fairs, which organised the trade fair, said that the country’s textile industry is expected to grow at a rate of 20% annually to reach $36 billion by 2016-17. According to his figures, India’s technical textiles sector grew at an annual rate of 11% between 2006 and 2011.
