Australian sportswear manufacturer Billabong has agreed to sell its Canadian apparel, footwear, accessories and equipment brand West 49 to fashion company YM.

YM will acquire Billabong’s 92 Canada-based West 49 stores for between C$9 million and C$11 million ($8.6 million and $10.6 million).

"The sale of West 49 is part of our broader strategy of simplifying our business and focusing on the core of what we do best, which is building strong global brands," said Billabong CEO Neil Fiske.

The company announced in August that various restructuring measures would be put in place and that it was looking forward to “refocusing, reinvigorating its brands and rebuilding the business on a solid, long-term financial footing”.
