SnowSports Industries America (SIA), the snow sports industry’s member-owned trade association, has revealed in new market research that more than 4.4 million young people between the ages of six and 17 took part in snow sports in the 2012-2013 season.

After examining the figures, SIA has said it believes 25% of all alpine skiers in the US are aged under 17, although snowboarding was the most popular activity among young participants, bringing a total of 2.1 million young people into the mountains.

Furthermore, the research shows that 57% of all the money young people spent on equipment for snow sports during the season was spent at specialty shops.
