Sorona provides DuPont with a foothold back in the fibres business

DuPont has acknowledged the success of its Sorona polymer, which is made from resources that are 37% renewable, in helping gain a foothold back in the fibre business.

It will be a decade next year since the company sold its Invista business unit, but it started to build a business for Sorona in 2007. With the increasing demand since then for supply chain components that can help finished product manufacturers and brands emphasise sustainability, it is a growth area.

While saying it did not want to give a figure for the size of its Sorona business, DuPont seemed pleased with a recent report in Women’s Wear Daily that put annual sales of the polymer at around $60 million. DuPont sent a direct link to the comments to its followers on Twitter.

Its marketing manager for Sorona, Kathryn Lee, would only say that the company regards Sorona as having good growth potential and that apparel will continue to be a core focus for the Sorona business.
