Nylstar takes sole ownership of Meryl name
10/02/2014
French manufacturer Meryl Fiber owned the rights to the Meryl name but went out of business in 2012. Nylstar and Meryl Fiber were part of the same group until recently, with Italian group Snia a leading shareholder. Snia reining in production around the middle of the last decade led to the break-up of the group, with Nylstar, now under the ownership of an investment fund called Praedium, emerging as a strong player in its own right.
The company has confirmed to sportstextiles.com that the reports are basically correct, but has questioned one suggestion, that the use of the Meryl name has been the subject of years of legal disputes.
Spokesperson Carla Fernández-Moreno said: “We have not really fought for the brand, as it has been always within our rights to use it. Nylstar is now the sole owner and the only company that can use the brand Meryl.”
Nylstar was founded in 1923. It employs 240 people at its production site in Blanes, north of Barcelona.
