Lenzing feels pinch as fibre prices decline 13%
21/03/2014
The Austrian company plans to counteract the weak prices with a previously announced cost cutting plan, alongside a “marketing offensive” for specialty fibres.
Sales in 2013 fell by 8.7% from EUR 2.09 billion to EUR 1.91 billion. Fibre selling prices declined by 13% year-on-year to EUR 1.70 per kilogram.
“We assume that the difficult market environment will continue in 2014 and perhaps far into 2015. For this reason, we have implemented timely and comprehensive countermeasures,” said Lenzing CEO Peter Untersperger (pictured). “We are massively reducing costs at the same time adding impetus to the marketplace by promoting our specialty fibres Tencel and Modal.”
