Sports and outdoor brands ready for ‘green’ anti-odour solution, Canadian company claims

Canadian company The Stewart Group has created what it calls a patented “odour-mitigating biotechnology” called Cleansport NXT, which it believes will work well in sports clothing and footwear applications.

The treatment is applied at the mill level through spray, dip or pad procedures and is, according to the company, “truly safe, efficacious and green”.

It is a specialised microbe-based technology that generates enzymes to consume the root cause of odours; sweat and odour-causing bacteria.

“Sweat is a great food source for odour-causing bacteria,” The Stewart Group has said. “They decompose it but are not very efficient. The partially digested sweat they leave behind causes bad odour. So, reduce the sweat, reduce the odour.”

It insists that the green nature of its technology sets it apart from many antimicrobial solutions. “Ours is a natural process,” the company says. “We select naturally occurring microbes from nature versus chemicals derived from laboratories.”

The company says sports and outdoor brands such as Puma, LL Bean, Vaude and Salewa have already approached it with a view to incorporating Cleansport NXT into their products.
