Greenpeace to announce results of World Cup kit testing

Ahead of the forthcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, Greenpeace Germany has conducted testing for hazardous chemicals on a range of football equipment made by a number of major sports brands.

On May 19, it will release the results of the exercise, which focused on official merchandising articles rather than on equipment or clothing that teams will use at the event.

“The textile industry is one of the biggest sectors responsible for polluting waters in producing countries like China and Mexico,” Greenpeace Germany said ahead of the announcement, claiming that “about two-thirds of China’s waterways” are contaminated.
