Polyurethanes conference is a sell-out

Organisers of the UTECH North America conference on polyurethanes have said the event, which takes place in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 4 and 5, has sold out. In the build-up to the event, they said there was still scope for visitors to register for the exhibition that takes place in parallel, but that places at the conference have all been taken.

Speakers at the conference will outline the latest developments in the world of polyurethanes, including in applications for textiles and footwear, and reveal insights into the North American polyurethanes market, which industry experts say is recovering. The US polyurethanes market alone has an output of $19.4 billion, operates in 935 locations and supports more than 200,000 jobs.

Mark Bassett, global vice-president of polyurethanes at Dow Chemical, will deliver the conference’s opening keynote with a paper entitled: A World of Change, A World of Opportunity, looking at shifting markets, energy dynamics, technology innovation, chemicals regulation and sustainability trends.

Other conference highlights include a whole session focusing on sustainability issues that will examine alternative natural-oil-based polyols, bio-succinium- and CO2-based materials and seek to set out a series of practical steps to foster what the organisers have called “wider and faster acceptance of these new approaches”.

Invista will also take part in the event, showcasing a new polyol that offers low viscosity and recycled content. Branded as Terrin polyols, this family of aliphatic ester polyols is available for samples and commercial use, after a successful first commercial trial, Invista has said.

Reverdia will promote Biosuccinium, its brand of bio-based succinic acid, produced using a low-pH yeast technology. It enables customers to produce bio-based, high-quality performance materials while at the same time improving their environmental footprint.
